"Narrow" by Hocus
Released on Sep 9, 2022
This is the debut album of Hocus, the solo project of trumpeter and improviser João Almeida, an increasingly relevant figure in the portuguese experimental scene. Using the no-input mixer method, João delivers a powerful and coherent record, a harsh noise treatise divided into seven stages, inspired by two ideas - static movement and mental illness. While the music is moody and appears to be as static as the rock on its cover, a closer listen reveals the complexity of textures and sound frequencies at work. This is the beginning of a beautiful journey and we couldn't be happier to be on board.
